Why do you eliminate b? Look for parallel structures in the second part of the sentence too.

Fernande Olivier was an artist who Picasso met in 1904 during the Rose Period, which is characterized by images of acrobats, harlequins, and other circus people.

A. who Picasso met in 1904 during the Rose Period, which is characterized by images of acrobats, harlequins, and other circus people
Incorrect, "who" is not correct. It should be "whom".

B. whom Picasso met in 1904 during the Rose Period, which is characterized by images of harlequins, acrobatic, and other circus people
Acrobatic is incorrect. For maintaining parallelism, all 3 types of images must be nouns.

C. whom Picasso met in 1904 during the Rose Period, which is characterized by images of acrobats, harlequins, and other circus people
Correct.

D. whom Picasso met in 1904 during the Rose Period, which is characterized by images of acrobats, harlequins, and shows other circus people
Incorrect. "shows other"" breaks the parallelism. If we were to keep "shows other", then we had to make "acrobats and harlequins".

E. who, in 1904, Picasso met during the Rose Period, which is characterized by images of acrobats, harlequins, and other circus people
Incorrect, "who" is not correct. It should be "whom". Putting "in 1904" within commas changes the meaning of the original sentence.

A. who Picasso met in 1904 during the Rose Period, which is characterized by images of acrobats, harlequins, and other circus people ----- Who met Picasso – wrong; it should be Whom Picasso met

B. whom Picasso met in 1904 during the Rose Period, which is characterized by images of harlequins, acrobatic, and other circus people ---- harlequins is noun, acrobatic is adjective --- not parallel

C. whom Picasso met in 1904 during the Rose Period, which is characterized by images of acrobats, harlequins, and other circus people ----- Correct choice

D. whom Picasso met in 1904 during the Rose Period, which is characterized by images of acrobats, harlequins, and shows other circus people -- ‘shows’, a verb after ‘and’ is unparallel to nouns such as acrobats and harlequins

E. who, in 1904, Picasso met during the Rose Period, which is characterized by images of acrobats, harlequins, and other circus people -- who is wrong

Do we use whom because the action of meeting is done to Picasso and thats why we use whom? If that makes sense.

Hi,

We use "whom" because Picasso is the receiver of action so he is the object.

For subject relative pronoun(Fernande)-"who" (doer of the action/subject)
For object relative pronoun(Picasso)-"whom" (receiver of the action/object)

Dom.
