less than vs. fewer than

less than - non countable nouns

fewer than - countable nouns

C is wordy.

Answer E.

IMO E

Option A & C have parallelism error..'For every one hundred applicants..,the interview committee/an interview conducted...'
Hence eliminate A & C

Options B, D, E correct this parallelism error : 'For every one hundred applicants...,
under six of them/less than six/fewer than six...'

Among B,D,E, option E 'fewer than six' correctly modifies countable noun 'applicants'

Thanks

+1 for E.

(E) fewer than six will be interviewed by the committee --> Fewer over less than for countable noun, and the option is less wordy, unlike other options.

Hence, E.

Here we talk about applicants which is countable noun. So "Less" is not proper here. --> A and D are out
B. preposition "under" is inappropriate the talk about number or amount of something ---> B is out
C. wordy and illogical meaning with preceding prepositional phrase "an interview conducted by the committee (for every one hundred applicants) will be given ...??
E. Most concise and logical meaning

I chose "E"
