Re: Foundations of GMAT Math Review [#permalink]
Hey y'all,

I might be 6-7 years late in replying to this thread, but are the earlier versions of this book (currently using the 5th Ed. that was written back in 2011...LOL) still worth using for test-takers nowadays?

Thanks in advance and appreciate any feedback!

Hi pauloracho,

To start, the rules of math have not changed, so if you're using this book to (re)learn math concepts, then that's fine. While the Quant section of the GMAT has gone through some adjustments over the last 8 years, it's still the same consistent, predictable section that it's always been, so you CAN train to Score at a higher level. That ultimately means that you have to remember that the Quant section of the GMAT is NOT a 'math test' - it's a critical thinking test that requires lots of little calculations as you work through it (so to score at a really high level, you need to be more of a 'strategist' and less of a 'mathematician').

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
7) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi Pauloracho,

You should not have any issues using that book; however, you may need additional resources for your prep. Since you seem to be just starting out with your GMAT studying, do you need any advice regarding your study plan?
