3. Freedman’s survey showed that people living in small towns and rural areas consider themselves no happier than do people living in big cities.
(A) no happier than do people living
(B) not any happier than do people living

My thoughts

No is quantifying the level of happiness

Not is simply negating the feeling of happiness

Both of them are not interchangeable and we can take B,C,E out

Between A & D, Its A for me

What is the OA?

D has parallel issue

people living in X consider ... do people living in Y

A is parallel in structure.

Struggled between A & D.

A is the winner. Parallel to non-underlined part.

A is comparing the feeling of happiness of people to feeling of happiness of another set of people

D compares happiness of people to people themselves.

I was b/w A and D too.

But I can see the error in D.

Thanks all.

Spriya, "consider....do", not "consider...are", is parallel

Though icandy's answer explains it best, I follow following method (which i must mention, I haven't tested extensively)

"people in small towns (do) consider" than "do people in big city"
