A. From 1995 to 1998 the average daily retail sales of women’s apparel increased between 12 and 16 percent annually. Correct
B. Twelve to sixteen percent is the annual increase in the average daily retail sales of women’s apparel in the years 1995 to 1998. : Awkward.
C. The average daily retail sales of women’s apparel have increased annually 12 and 16 percent in the years 1995 to 1998. : It conveys sales either increased 16% or 12% but not anything in between
D. Annually an increase from 12 to 16 percent has occurred between 1995 and 1998 in the average daily retail sales of women’s apparel. : Awkward.
E. Occurring from 1995 to 1998 was an annual increase of 12 to 16 percent in the average daily retail sales of women’s apparel. : Awkward.

The choices B,D and E have very awkward formations. Choice C changes the intended meaning of the sentence.

We have a clear winner, A!

Say the annual increases were:
1995--->1996: x%
1996--->1997: y%
1997--->1998: z%

The values of x, y and z are between 12 and 16.

Hi, Sales increased between 12% and 16% annually means the increase was anywhere from 12% to 16%. It could be 14%, it could be 15.5 etc. Thus, the average range is given to us.

I hope this makes sense. If not, let me know what is not clear.

Just a thought: Don't we need comma between --> From 1995 to 1998 and the average daily retail sales of women’s apparel
