The Manhattan Reading Comprehension Guide has a good list of Keywords and certain other strategies which might be helpful. Try and "find" ;)

Dear Warlock,

I'm quoting a part of my debrief. You might find this helpful. I personally think this is the best way to study CR.

Quote:
Critical Reasoning:
1. Powerscore GMAT CR Bible -
An excellent book for improving oneself in CR! The best way to study it is (pay attention, this is important, I don't think anyone has mentioned this approach before) as follows:

The first few chapters in the book offers a brief overview of what CR is all about. The remaining chapters focus on specific question types. The book divides CR questions into 10 different types and the introductory chapters will tell you how to distinguish one question type from another. After learning the introductory chapters, do the following:
Keep the Powerscore CR Bible next to you and turn to the CR section of the official guide. Start with the first CR question in the official guide and see if you can classify the question type. If you can't refer back to the introductory chapters. If you are able to classify it, turn to the relevant chapter. Go through the chapter and then return to the question and see if you're able to get to the right answer by applying what you just learned. If you're not able to get the right answer, go through the chapter again and again till you know why the right answer is right and why the wrong answer is wrong. Keep repeating the procedure for every question you do till you reach the point where you can start solving questions without having to refer back to the text. If everything goes as per plan, you should get there by question number 60 to 70 in the OG. From there on, do the remaining questions under timed conditions. I assure you, by the time you finish with the CR questions in the official guide, you will be able to breeze through the 500, 600 and possibly the lower 700 level questions in the actual GMAT :D

As for RC, I have the following tips:
1. Pay attention to the flow of information from sentence to sentence in a paragraph and how each paragraph relates with the other paragraphs. Comprehension is all about recognizing the flow of information. A good way to do this is to watch for markers. Markers are keywords which introduce a change in the flow of information.

For Example:
"However" is a keyword which signals a U turn in the flow of information.
"Therefore" is a keyword which signals that the author is coming to a conclusion or a sub-conclusion.
"Furthermore" is a keyword which introduces a fact that strengthens the previous statement.

I hope you find this helpful!

Thanks man
though i havent time to do this

but still would try to do so

Heartiest congratulations!!!

BUT, your score has aggravated a major dilemma in me to retake the GMAT. Even i scored 48 40 and I cant tell you how many times I have juggled with the idea of retaking the GMAT!!! Lets see.. I'm starting apps now with a 710 score, leaving everything to destiny for the time being!

congrats once again.

Amrith!!! It is simply wonderful to hear this news!!! I had called you a couple of weeks back to ask you about this but stuff came up and I ended up being busy!!

750 is A_W_E_SOME!! We all knew you could do it. I was worried how you could do it without any mock tests remaining... but you have just shown that it's possible!!! :D

Take a well-deserved break for a week and then I guess you'll have to start with the applications huh? :)

All the best and keep in touch!! :)

Thank you so much Rajeev :)

Well, to be honest with you I felt a little tinge of guilt every time I used to tell people how to score well on the GMAT. I used to tell people what the best strategy to adopt is under the presumption that everything I say will work ;) After my 750, I know that the strategies are effective.

So, now I'm more confident and motivated to help others score +700.

I hope IBM is treating you well... I might be coming down to Bangalore in a few days. I was hoping we could meet up and chill out and celebrate the success :beer Please send me your contact number via PM or text it to me.

Cheers!

Congrats! Happy you retook now I guess =)

It's interesting that a 51 is now 98th percentile. Wasn't it 99th not too long ago?
