Maria had twice as many suits in the year 1995 as she did in the year 1990. How many suits did Maria have in the year 1990 ?

(1) Maria had twice as many suits in the year 2000 as she did in the year 1995

(2) Maria had 2 more suits in the year 2000 than she did in the year 1995.

My answers are C for both.

1) July '02 median=1.02x
Jan '02 m=x

S1: x=1.04y insuff, since we do not know y
S2: Says increase from y to x is 1020. Since we do not know x,y insuff
Together: can find y and therefore x
0.04y=1020

2)'90 no.of suits=s
'95=2s
S1:2000=4s insuff
S2:2000=2s+2 insuff
Together: suff

this is exactly what Kaplan says, but I do not agree with that. choice 2 gives "Country X increased by \$1,020" which is amount of increase. I could not calculate the median household amount using information provided. Can you shed more light n this?
thanks

Here y=median in July'01
Since 0.04y=1020
y=1020/0.04=25500
Therefore, x=25500+1020=26520

(1) Right away: not sufficient.
(2) Same as in (1).
(1&2) 1020 = 4%X, X = median household income in July 1, 2001. Thus, we are able to find X and Y = median household income in January 1, 2002. Therefore, we can solve the problem => C.

We don´t make use of the "2% increase" data in this DS question.

Let X = # of suits in 1995. Y = # of suits in 2000.
(1) Y = 2X. Insuff => B, C or E.
(2) Y = X + 2. Insuff => C or E.
(1&2) 2X = X + 2 => X = 2, Y = 4. Suff => C.
