We know that :
G = H + 12 ---------------------------(From Statement 1)
G + 4 = 2 * (H + 4) = (2H + 8)------(From Statement 2)

We need to find (H + 3) :
Replacing value of G in 2, we get
2H + 3 + 5 = (H + 12) + 4
or (H + 3) = 16 - 5 = 11 --- Option (B)

Lets use options. Question is asking age of Harvey in 3 years.
Option A : 5
so present age of H is 2 (5-3).
Present age of Gita = 2+12 = 14.
In four years H = 2+4 = 6
In four years G = 14+4=18
18 is not twice of 6. So option A is wrong

Option B : 11
so present age of H is (11-3) =8
Present age of Gita = 8+12 = 20.
In four years H = 8+4 = 12
In four years G = 20+4=24
24 is twice of 12. So option B is correct.

Gita is 12 years older than Harvey.
Let x = Harvey's PRESENT age
Let x + 12 = Gita's PRESENT age

In 4 years, . . . .
x + 4 = Harvey's age IN FOUR YEARS
(x + 12) + 4 = Gita's age IN FOUR YEARS

. . . Gita will be twice as old as Harvey.
So: (Gita's age IN 4 YEARS) = 2(Harvey's age IN 4 YEARS)
In other words: (x + 12) + 4 = 2(x + 4)
Simplify: x + 16 = 2x + 8
Subtract x from both sides: 16 = x + 8
Subtract 8 from both sides: 8 = x

So, Harvey's PRESENT age is 8 years old

How old will Harvey be in 3 years?
Harvey will be 11 years old in 3 years.

Cheers,
Brent
