la-bl = 2 i.e. Distance between a and b on number line is 2

lb-cl = 3 i.e. Distance between b and c on number line is 3
i.e. Distance between a and c is either 2+3 = 5 or 3-2 = 1


lc-dl = 4 i.e. Distance between c and d on number line is 4
i.e. Distance between a and d is either 5+4 = 9 or 5-4 = 1 or 1+4 = 5 or l1-4l = 3


Sum of all values of la-dl = 9+1+5+3 = 18



Answer: Option E
