Hi Shantanu
Congrates for this big score..... good luck for your application part.
Could you please let me know how many mistakes you did to score 42?

Hi Sandeep

Thanks - my best guess would be around 5-6 mistakes at least.

Congrats Santanu,

This is a truly amazing score. I do not think I have ever seen someone getting such a high score after first prep. Thank you for your debrief!

Thanks Laker7 - but, to be fair, this was my second attempt in a month and a half.:)

All the best, Sandeep!
Btw: Have you looked at the e-GMAT course? I had attended a couple of their free sessions - the course seems to be tailor made for people with a strong quant, but relatively weaker verbal.

I think you should have a look at it. It's cheap, the instructors are Indians based in the US and seem to be very helpful. All the best!

Is this score the official or unofficial? I only ask because I got the exact same scores - q50, v42 - when I took the test on Wednesday, and it gave me an unofficial 750. (Because of your post I'm hoping that when I get an official report it might bump me up another 10 points).

Hi Santanu,

First of all congrats for the phenomenal score.
I would like to know how tough was the Maths section as compared to your practice tests.

And did you find any idioms questions in the SC?

BR
Mandeep

Hi Mandeep

The first time I took my GMAT (730, 48q, 42v), I found the quants section tougher than GMATPrep quants. I think that was partly the luck of the draw given I seemed to have gotten at least 3-4 tough geometry and coordinate geometry problems. Also, I think my quant prep was undercooked the first time around and my strategy flawed.

The second time (760, 50q, 42v), the questions seemed easier and more inline with GMATPrep quant, with only one or two weird problems for which I promptly guessed and moved on. My DS preparation was better plus I had decided that I would skip problems that I did not understand - I had wasted time during my first GMAT.

In sum: I think it was a 50:50 mix the second time: The questions I got were relatively simpler and on expected lines - also, I was better prepared and had a sound strategy.

Hi Shantanu
Thanks for the clarification.
what should be the verbal accuracy (approx) to score V40-42?

what was yours verbal accuracy (SC, CR and RC .. If you remember )when you scored V 42? :)

Don't remember breakups, but should be around 6-8 mistakes overall I guess - should be an accuracy of 80-85%.

Thanks shantanu.. you mean to say i need to increase my accuracy for 3-4 more questions .
I am already scoring 50 in q and planning to take more and more test so that i can score q51.

Yes, that's right.

However, I would urge you to take a practice test as a learning experience and learn from the mistakes rather than treat it as a make-or-break emotional rollercoaster. That would put additional pressure on you and be detrimental to your score even.
