Are we still trying to put together a GClub Trip? Haven't heard much on here about it lately, but I'm definitely trying to do something

You're not that much older than me, if any older.

You, however, also have a wife and babies. If anything, that rules you out.

Dude, just push back a little. Distance makes the heart grow fonder.

Let me illustrate.

"Mrs Rhyme?"
"Yes?"
"Can I go meet mohater, ladyroadwarrior and faro in Brazil in June?"
"Excuse me?"
"You know. Mohater. LadyRoadWarrior. Faro."
"Are these your internet friends again? Why do you bother with these people?"
"Well, LadyRoadWarrior says she'll buy me a beer."
"And so you think its appropriate to fly to Brazil to meet some girl for a beer?"
"Oh its not like that at all..."
"I see, and what about the fact that we are expecting our 2nd kid in June?"
"You got facetime right?"
"What?"
"Facetime. The apple thing. Your iphone."
"I know what Facetime is. Did you just suggest that you witness the birth of your son via the internet?"
"Postpone it then."
"Postpone the birth?"
"Yes"
"And how do you propose I do that?"
"I dont know. I'm sure if you google you'll figure it out"
"And who is mohater and faro?"
"I dont know, but mohater's gmail avatar makes him look like a cross between a homeless man and bruce lee. Faro is probably some vegan hippie from california. Either that or someone who likes lighthouses. I dont know."
"And where would you be staying?"
"The Ritz?"
"You want to go meet some dorks at the Ritz?"
"Sure, its only $8,000."
"Only $8,000?"
"You dont get it, I could drink for free! I'll dish out little bits of advice like "Try not to sleep with your professors" and in return they will shower me with booze."
"And who is planning this thing?"
"Oh some girl named cheetarah1980"
"Cheetarah?"
"Yea."
"That sounds a lot like cougar....."
"Similar but different"
"Well, this seems well thought out."
"I'm glad you agree."
"Okay honey, have fun."

See? easy...

Re: GMAT Club Pre MBA Trip [#permalink]
Hey all, I got in touch with a travel agent and she is putting together some options for us. She just sent this one over. Here is the rough cost of going to Rio De Janiero, leaving July 2 (arrive July 3) and returning July 9.

Flights:

PHL-GIG (closest International Airport to Rio): $1475 per person round trip with one stop on AA using a bulk rate

LHR-GIG: $1011 r/t per person direct on LH

JFK-GIG: $1500 r/t per person direct on AA using a bulk rate

ORD-GIG: $1460 r/t per person with one stop on AA

DEL-GIG: $2025 r/t per person with one stop on Air France

Transfers and Hotel:

Round trip transfers between your hotel and the airport

6 nights at the PORTO BAY RIO INTERNACIONAL HOTEL

Includes full breakfast

Maximum occupancy of 2 adults per room (we can flex this)

Rate per person: $880.00

The total rate will vary depending on the flights/city of origin, but the average cost for this option would be around $2300.

Take a look at this hotel online (I recommend TripAdvisor.com) and let me know what you think. It is in the Copacabana beach area. I think Rio de Janiero would be a nice option for us since it combines the beach, nightlife, shopping and some amazing sights.

Another hotel that would cut down on cost in that area would be the Best Western Rio Copa in the Copacabana area. With transfers this would come to $680 per person in a standard double room with full breakfast included.

If anyone is interested in Egypt, I'll be there May 11-19. I just bought a RT ticket from NYC-Cairo for $850 on Egypt Air.

I'm using up the last of my vacation days before I quit in July. :)
