For those of you who are already a year into your MBA (or have graduated already), how much time is reasonably available to work out during the school year? Or, like almost everything else, is the answer "it depends"?

As for myself, I started doing CF back in 2007 and have been a part-time coach at an affiliate for the last 2 years. Over the last 4 years I've kicked around several different programs (powerlifting-specific stuff, an Oly lifting kick, prep programs for the CF Games qualifiers, etc.) and have since shifted over to a basic strength program with a few CF-style conditioning workouts per week in an effort to get bigger and stronger and minimize my chances of developing overuse injuries from some of the things CF recommends.

I'm hoping to at least be able to find 90-120 minutes two or three days a week this fall, but I also recognize that coming from the Marine Corps I'm going to have to work harder than most people to get up to speed in a lot of the basic business-type classes.

This is my first post in GMAT Club...Strangely its in the Fun stuff section...I guess i am going to have lods of fun on this forum...

I have been working out in the gym since last couple of months...I am doing total body weight training and cardio exercises 6 days a week and on Sundays I go for swimming...Reason I am working out so hard is that I am quite over-weight and targeting to loose good 22 pounds before by next birth day which is on 29th november...

One thing I learn is that Proper diet is extremely important if u want to attain you goal of loosing weight or building a "300" kind a body...

I will post my detailed work out plan shortly...

Till then Happy Working Out..

I started the "Insanity" workout series.

Although I still feel pretty stupid doing workout videos on my living room, I have to admit that they're pretty good. It's based on max interval training and really gets your heart rate up. At the peaks of each interval I'm consistently 175-180bpm, which is pretty solid for living room exercising.

I plan on creating a hybrid schedule, mixing inworkouts from Insanity with workouts from p90x. My initial plan is to alternate weeks, but I might create a more complicated schedule where I mix the two systems in during each week. We'll see.

Umm....I like being strong and lean rather than weak and fat, and I like being able to run around and play sports without losing my breath in the first 10 seconds. Not too complicated.

Interesting... I am definitely sorry to hear that. Thankfully, you can assure yourself you are done with the GMAT and not worry about it but it is pretty strange that the dream has stuck around.

Just wait till you get into the bschool.

P.S. AV did not start working out seriously until AFTER he got into Ross - I think the stress of the application season is really distracting from pretty much anything else.

It's great to see that we still have people going strong with health and fitness goals!

Although I haven't updated my activity log until today, I've been getting bigger and stronger every week at Ross. I was able to hit all of my 2011 goals and I've got a lot of momentum heading into 2012. My progress over that past nine months has been incredible.

I don't have the specific numbers available right now, but I'll take a guess at my nine month progress (lots of newbie gains).
• Lean Muscle Mass: +15 lbs.
• Bench press: from ~155 lbs. to 255 lbs. (+100 lbs.)
• Squat: from 155 lbs. to 345 lbs. (+190 lbs.)
• Deadlift: from 155 lbs. to 400 lbs. (+245 lbs.)
• Dumbbell Curls (8-rep max): from 25 lbs. to 45 lbs. (+20 lbs.)
• Tricep Pushdown (8-rep max): from 60 lbs. to 160+ lbs. (+100 lbs.)
• Pull-ups (8-rep max): from bodyweight? to bodyweight + 50 lbs.
• Dips (8-rep max): from bodyweight? to bodyweight + 50 lbs.

I've been a lot more focused over the past 2 months and I think my gains are accelerating again. My advice to aspiring bodybuilders: (1) Lift heavy and often - no one ever curled 100 lb. dumbbells with tiny arms; (2) Eat, then eat some more.

Pretty solid numbers Av, especially on the barbell lifts. I see so few people in the gym here who know (or even care) how to lift properly. I can count on one hand the number of people I've seen doing deadlifts, and there may be 3 or 4 people who squat properly and safely to full depth. I have had a few guys in my class ask me for advice for getting started on strength training, so there's still hope. I'm just hoping all the New Years Resolution crowd sticks to machines and elliptical machines for their month-long efforts at getting in shape so they're not clogging up the only two squat racks here.

What time do you guys typically work out during the week? Especially those with jobs. I usually have work from 9 to 6. I also have a one hour commute there and back (ugh Los Angeles . . .). I feel like the gyms are always packed after 6 p.m. I'm thinking of working out before work, I imagine it would be hell the first week though

I do group training classes, so my options are limited in terms of when I can come. I picked the 7:30 PM (which is the only time I can really make).
I would not be able to do 6 AM since I am so wiped out then. I never even tried the 6 am but I know there is a good sized crowd then too.
