Gmat Help with Quants

Well,

I'm a south Asian Gmat Taker and though im quite confident about verbal part,teh Quants part shakes me a bit.Though i did pretty well in my math classes at school and at college.

what i want to know here is how do i get to the basics and then move upward to 680+ problems.
Some books /suggestions woudl be of great help.

Check out the recommended books section in this forum.

Quant :
GMAT Official Guide 12th edition - Must have, dont take the GMAT without this book
MGMAT Quant 5 Strategy Guides (Comes with addition question banks and the 6 mock GMAT tests - best rated!)

MGMAT Strategy Guides should be sufficient to understand concepts - rest all is practice and practice. Also you can check out khanacademy.org for more conceptual clarity.


For additional practice: (Good Material according to me)
Official Guide Quant Supplement 2nd Edition
Official Guide 11th edition - (12th and 11th editions overlap so be careful)

Advanced Quant Practice:(atleast 650-700 level)
GMATclub Tests (about 1000 questions)
Jeff Sackman Extreme Challenge (100 very difficult questions)

Also you will find tonnes of questions in this forum, plus the 6 mocks would mean 37 questions each - which is as good as practicing.

One piece of advice - avoid our general competitive exam text books such as RS Aggarwal, etc. They are good for practicing basics but will push you off track. The GMAT quant questions are way different from those in these books. If Verbal seems easy to you, Quant would be a cakewalk with practice.

Thanks for the help.i would like to purchase the MGAMT books and also the practice exams.but if i order it from the US shipping charges are going to blow me..any idea?

Try Flipkart.com , I ordered most of my books from them - these books might take time though - about 15-20 days. Check out their website. They will delivered the books to your place.

Thats great one last doubt..im planning to get only the Number properties and geometr guides..will buying that alosn get the 6 CATS

i know im askin too many doubts but its that its all new to me kinda

Yes it will, but not additional 6 CATS. MGMAT has only 6 CATS. No matter whether you buy 1 or all .

Don't worry we have all been there. As Sudhir said you will get access to all 6 tests even if you buy one book. I would suggest you buy all the books - Number Properties is a must have but the other books such as Word Translation and Inequalities book is also pretty good. Inequalities is gonna be a painful topic believe me.

Then again do what you're comfortable with. Just make sure you decide in advance what you're going to need because delivery takes 15-20 days or even more!

Thanks sudhir and akilesh..I've ordered both the books on flipkart..They say 3 days,lets see if they make it:)
Let me try these books i can always go back and buy the other stuff..
But thanks a lot akilesh for giving the start up ideas.was strugglin for almost 2 months and wanderin deciding what to do.
