GMAT: Looking for Advice feeling discouraged

Hi all,

I was just wondering what I should do in my current situation or possibly other options to consider given my limited success. About six months ago, I took the GMAT and scored a 420 (V27,Q19). I knew this would not be good enough to get me into the program I was looking to attend. So, in hopes of improving my score I began hitting the books. I intermittently studied during the week after work, for about 1-2hrs. Some weeks all five days(M-F), other weeks a more erratic pattern ranging from 1-5 days within any given week. I utilized the Official Guide for Gmat 2016 for all of my studies, almost exclusively focusing on Quant. As I got closer to my second examination(my latest and failed attempt) I substituted all my weekly sessions for longer days of studying confined to the weekend. Usually for about 10 hours a day on both Saturday and Sunday. I began to not only review the Quant, but I also started reviewing the Verbal portion as well. In the midst of changing jobs I had two weeks of time to study from 1/29/18 up until the exam on 2/3/18, so I studied up until 2/1/18, intermingling my Verbal and Quant studies. I studied a good amount of time during this period probably putting in more than 120 hours in aggregate. I took two practice exams utilizing the GmatPrep software from the GMAC website with the following results:

1/31/18 - 510(V33,Q27)
2/01/18- 560(V32,Q35)

Fast forward to today and my results were dismal at 400(V25,Q19). I slept well +8 hours and ate a protein rich meal before the exam. I am currently thinking about throwing in the towel and calling it quits, I am extremely discouraged. I am thinking that I may stand a better shot with the GRE so I may attempt to switch gears and take that instead. Any insights/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
