Hi EGMAT Expert,

I have a query in the following question from GMAT Prep Practice Exam 5.

Like the Dreyfus affair at the turn of the century and the Sacco-Vanzetti trial in 1921, the Hiss case became the political cause of an era, the more so because it was the first time a congressional hearing was shown on television.

1. the more so because it was
2. more for its being
3. more for the reason that it was
4. the more so for the reason because it was
5. the reason of it being more so is that it was

Between option choice A and C, I am unable to figure out which one is correct.

Which rules/concepts are applicable here? How to approach such question?

After reading again and again, option choice C was sounding good to the ear so i marked it, but i was wrong. It only wasted my time in the exam

[Reveal] Spoiler:
A

Kindly clarify

Thanks
Sahil

The more so implies all the more so

More for the reason is unidiomatic .

Please refer to the following thread where the question is already discussed: like-the-dreyfus-affair-at-the-century-and-the-sacco-vanzetti-trial-in-216997.html

Thanks for your reply.

I have already gone through that thread. I have specifically posted this question here because EGMAT approach has always been very logical. The lay less stress on Idioms, which give advantage to Natives.

As I am EGMAT student, i just wanted have their opinion if there is any other approach to this question than learning Idioms.

Fair enough :) I do agree that an E-gmat representative would do a better job at explaining this but they usually respond quicker on their internal forums.

Here is a video if you need to figure out how to do that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZduO1iEPYlA

Appreciate the pain taken by you in guiding how to post the doubts.

Just to inform you, EGMAT don't discuss doubts from Official sources on internal forums. Such doubts are mainly discussed on GMAT Club.
