Hi All,

I have started my GMAT studies using the OGs. Am thinking to purchase all the Manhattan books and then take practice tests. I have time to study and plan to give the exam next year. Do I need to enroll in any online courses also?

Thanks

Please check below link for detailed answer to your question:
Quote:
Advantages of the Low Cost Online Self Study Courses

-Breadth and Depth - of then they are able to incorporate more study elements/pieces than a book would
-"Instructor-lead" approach
-Can be taken anywhere
-Many come with free access to the GMAT Club tests (great value!)
-Cost can be often more effective than a set of books (esp if shipping is expensive)
-Updated content and ability to ask questions/receive support - many courses offer a certain level of support

Weaknesses of the Low Cost Online Self Study Courses:

-No paper - if you are used to textbooks, this may not be for you
-Illusion of progress: watching videos may be an easy way to study but you need to think/analyze/process, not just watch videos
-Distractions - you can usually isolate yourself with a book but having a computer with FB, Youtube, etc in front of you, may not be easy to focus on the lessons
-There is usually support but it is not the same as having an instructor walk you through each lesson

Hi Sandeep4motwani

I most of the points have been covered in the posts above, I'll just provide you with a tip:

If you can study with a time-table ie study regularly, have lesser distractions go for the Manhattan books, and practice here on GC.
However, If you a person, who can not study regularly ie you have many commitments and find it hard to take out time from schedule, go for a online-course.

Online course will not only provide with a framework to study and improve but will also help you keep a tab of how much you have completed and where you stand.
Also, subconsciously, since the online courses are of fixed duration, you will try to complete the course with that time frame to not let your hard earned money go waste !

Dear Sandeep,

One can definitely self-prepare for GMAT (I did :-)). All the best for your preparation!

To help your pursuit, may I recommend the following source on our website? These ~200 short videos will help you get started and keep teaching you a new concept every time you have a spare 2-minutes :-)

Further, we encourage you to opt for demo access to our online program, to take a diagnostic test and judge your current level while also getting access to conceptual material and practice questions for three of the most popular but annoying GMAT concepts such as boldface, remainders, parallelism. You can opt for the access here- https://expertsglobal.com/gmat-preparation-online

All the very best!

Hi Sandeep,

Since it sounds like you're just beginning your studies, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can take 2 for free at www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have those scores, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.

I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:
1) What is your goal score?
2) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
