Hello,

Could someone explain me, how the TOEFL speaking part grading is designed? In general you can achieve around 34 correct answers but you only have the chance to receive 30 points.

You get a score of 1.0 to 4.0 on each question. But they don't just add them all up. Instead, each of those scores is "scaled up" to a value of 1 to 30. This is just done mathematically. So like a score of 3 out of 4 becomes 22.5.

They add up all six of those scaled scores and divide by six to produce your final result. Obviously a final result ending in .5 rounds up.

Does that make sense?
