Average Speed = Total Distance / total time
Now Total Distance = 15 (1/4+1/4)+30*1/4 =15miles
Time = 15+15+15+15+15 = 75 min = 75/60 =5/4 hr
Average Speed = 15/(5/4)= 12mph

I got the correct answer, but took almost 2:10 mins to solve this. Hope time gets better with practice.

Re: Gunther, the pizza delivery boy, went out from the store carrying pizz [#permalink]
As per the question it took pizza delivery boy 15 mins to reach Slytherin from Ravenclaw. He speed was 30 m/hr.

The third leg equation stands like this = D=s*t ( d= 30*1/2 hr)= 15 not 15/2.

Therefore, Average Speed = (15/4+15/4+15)-- Total distance / 1/4+1/4+1/2-- (total time)= 22.5 m/hr.

Can you please explain how did you guys get C as answer

Why did you consider 1/2 hr? He took 15 mins to reach the third destination. so: 15/2.

@avidd:

Yes, you are right, even if after taking the correct value, the final equation stands like this:

15/4+15/4+15/4-- (total distance)/1/4+1/4+1/4( total time)-- the answer comes as 20 .

Please let me know what is that i am missing here

You have not considered his delivery time. He spends 15 mins each in the first 2 destinations. So your total time = 5/4.

Your total distance is also wrong. His journey from second to third destination was double the speed.

Correct equation is: Total Distance = 15/4+15/4+15/2 = 60/4 = 15

Total time = 1/4+1/4+1/4+1/4+1/4 = 5/4

Avg speed = 15 / (5/4) = 15*4/5 = 12.

I don’t get it . If we are taking time for 5 sets then we should take distance for 5 sets

Distance for 2 sets is 0, because he did not travel. He took 15 mins to deliver the pizzas.

Answer is C.

Total distance travelled = 15/4 + 15/4 + 30/4 = 15miles.
Total time taken = 15+15+15+15+15 = 75 minutes.

Average speed = 15/75 = 0.2 miles/ minute = 0.2*60 miles / hour = 12mph.
