Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? High schools should allow students to study the courses that students want to study. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

Many students might think that, they can decide which course to take and which not to take. Students might have that much experience that they can decide that one course may help him to career ahead, and another one may not suits to his/her career. However, I disagree with the statement that high schools allow students to study the courses the students want to study, on some few reasoning and valid assumptions.

Firstly, students have not that much experience of deciding which course to take. They might be overstressed, as they already burdened with 7 to 8 courses, and it may be added more stressful to give them chance to decide ownselves which courses to take. For instance, I was in 10th grade. We have been assigned with chemistry and physics classes. At that time, we could not understand the definition of courses how could we decide that which course to take.

Secondly, courses, assigned for the students, are not decided by one person. Rather, it is decided by a body, which consists of highly professional teachers. They can decide much better for students, because they are well experienced. In addition to that, students are assigned for the courses that are basics, allowing students to decide which course to take may be like putting students in to trouble, because they will have to decide the course which they haven’t read before. For instance, I was in 11th grade, few of my students could not understand the English properly or prounce the English words properly, and we used to read all subjects in English. We didn’t have proper career planning or any way for future, that’s why I think to allow students to decide themselves about courses will be not better decision.

In summary, above given reasons and examples taken my side that students can’t decide themselves about the courses to take. Few people might disagree with me on assumption that student are mature enough to decide themselves and have career planning. But that’s not true, because in my home country students do not know where to go and they don’t know what career would be suitable for them until they pass the high school.
