I am secretly hoping they'll play the songs while reading the essay. Think how cheerful and happy the adcom would be. They'll just accept all of us!(AMEN Brother!!!)

I guess if we mention about how music in the song makes a difference, they might listen to the song as well, wouldn't they?

Ankit

They'll probably rope some poor undergraduate intern into making a CD with all our songs on it and then when they've made the class they'll take only the songs of the matriculated students and give it to us at graduation. And we'll cry and think of how lucky we are to be there. TEAR!

I would think so! But I wouldn't write my essay under that pretense though. I can check with my some friends at Haas

I see you're a blogger yourself! You haven't posted in a bit--are you retaking the GMAT again?

I don't see anything wrong with a Pink Floyd or a Bollywood song. I mean, I guess the Bollywood might remind the adcom too acutely that you're an Indian applicant, but if it conjures up real, authentic, and interesting memories of your life, I don't see any problem with that. And well, Pink Floyd is a classic! :)

I thought about referencing one of my favorite songs, River by Joni Mitchell and how it was totally ruined for me when I heard it playing at a sex shop in Chicago. Haha, then I decided that fell into the category of "TMI" (too much information).

Hey Machichi,

I retook my GMAT, I scored 700(Q48 V38). Not quite happy with my verbal score but that's ok. It is about the time I let go. :)
Overall I am happy that I am done with GMAT.

For the supplemental information section, are you guys listing that information in paragraph form or bullet? Also, has adcoms provided indication on preferable word count?

The application has TONS of possible places for supplemental information. You should log in to see. There's one for gaps in employment, another for quantitative skills, and another for general. They list word counts where appropriate.

Am I missing something? We can't upload PDFs of our essays on Haas's site? Ugh, that makes me really nervous. When you go to submit, do you at least get to preview the whole application? This is the last application now (latest deadline). Although I noticed that Haas has a really different user interface, I wasn't prepared to have to insert my answers in plain text.

Also, how are people handling the supplemental questions? I can't tell if they want me to repeat stuff from my resume...

I just noticed something really unusal about the TOEFL requirements.

TOEFL scores are valid for 2 years, yet the Haas application says "TOEFL/IELTS exam must have been taken after June 1, 2011".

I took the TOELF in May, 2011. I'll contact their admission's office about this because if I have to retake the TOEFL then I'll really find myself in a mess trying to fit it into into my schedule in the coming weeks. I find this policy quite odd as my scores will be still valid WAY after the decision date of the round I'm applying in.

I believe it's University policy that your TOEFL must be valid at the time of matriculation. I'm surprised it's not later to be honest.

Every other school I'm applying to is fine with a valid TOEFL score at the deadline of the round you're applying in, that's why I said I find this unusal.
