Was anything interesting discussed today in the waitlist chat?

Nothing important... Very much in line with what was expected...
All the WL'ers were eager to know what really happened with their application...
All the adcoms where eager to keep everyone guessing for a few more months.... :P

I also attended the chat. I thought it was very very banal, no useful info. I couldn't help but think that this whole waitlist thing is like drama part of a boring Bollywood story :)

There is no clear indication of why a particular applicant is waitlisted, or what is the missing piece of puzzle so we can address better - what is the point then?

- Why was I waitlisted? - Sorry cant answer that
- What part of my application is the weak link so I can address it better - Sorry cant answer that
- Is there anything specific I can do from my application PoV to help myself? - Sorry cant answer that

Why have a chat with a super tough password with the wait-listed candidates? If any of you actually read the waitlist chat transcripts from past couple of years, you will feel like this chat was a rewind and play of the same crap.

Sorry guys - am just very frustrated.

Don't be! You are already in UCLA!! :) Take some time off, have fun!
Either ways, Haas/UCLA, once your class starts, you will not be able to get time!
Enjoy these precious moments...

Well, there were 40 people that were able to show up for the chat. All you really know is there are at least 40 people on the list. Try not to over think this. There are many variables that you don't know about and it's fairly impossible to tell what your chances are.

Posted from my mobile device

The chances might just be very slim...
The college infact was ready to let the waitlisted candidates go...
They asked us if we wanted to be on the WL. Had we said no, that would have been the end of story...
Which means, they were ok with losing us... So that just means that they got a lot of applicants like me... And they are ok to let me go... :(
Pretty discouraging... But Haas is my #1 choice school!!! ;(

I think it's more along the lines of admissions wants to make sure they have a current list of people that are interested in attending. If someone on the wait list got an admission somewhere else and decided to attend there, the adcom wants to take them off the wait list. It's only fair for everyone else on the list that way.

Honestly, you still have a half way decent shot at getting in. The class of 2016 facebook page only has 17 people on it so far. While that's not a completely representative sample of the class as of yet, should give you an idea of how many people they've actually let in to the program as of now. There are 240 slots in the class. So, there should be quite a few empty spaces left yet.

Just 17 so far! Thats leaves a lot of room for everyone else. No wonder that they have 40+ WL'ers...
Guess we should all keep up the good faith and hope for the best!
Thanks for the info packet82!!

If you scored less than a 700 on the GMAT, consider retaking it. Otherwise sit tight. There's not a lot else you can do.

Don't worry about it. As long as it starts with a 7, everyone is happy. The general rule of thumb I've found is you get one bad spot in your profile. Anything else starts to raise flags. So, if your GPA is below 700, try to change it. I know Haas' avg GMAT score is 692, but adcoms still like to see 700 or higher.

That wasn't from me. I have no idea how big the cohorts are going to be this year.
