Hello,

I need help deciding on my business schools and how my stretch, target and safety schools stack with my credentials.

GMAT 700
American PR card
Experience: 2.5 years at time of program start

Pre-MBA experience across 4 industries: in house consulting (Pakistan)
Post-MBA goal: Management consulting (US)

Stretch: Wharton, Northwestern (Kellogg), Duke (Fuqua), UChicago (Booth), Columbia Business School
Target: Yale (SOM), Cornell (Johnson), Virginia (Darden), Dartmouth (Tuck), Georgetown (McDonough), Carnegie (Tepper), UT Austin (McCombs)
Safety: Emory, Toronto (Rotman), York (Schulich), Queens Canada, Indiana (Kelley)]

Of this list, I need to get down to a reasonable number. Please help!

Hello there !

Surely you have a good list of schools but yea you need to cut down.
Honestly : Wharton, Kellogg, Columbia and Chicago are kind of really really stretch given your experience and credentials. Not sure if you have done some great things during your university or Work life, otherwise its really hard.

I think Tuck, Darden and Duke are stretch as per your credentials mentioned here. But you may want to include Kellogg or Chicago if you really want to try.
For target : you can get rid of Tepper and Georgetown I think. Tepper is more like a tech school as traditionally the university is known for and Georgetown is not a very good choice.
For safe : You don't need 3 schools from Canada unless you really want to go to Canada. I think just one of Rotman or Schulich should be fine. Kelly and Emory are decent choices.

With all that said, its better to weigh the schools against several factors like personal interest, background, ROI, class size and curriculum, global ranking and brand visibility etc and then decide your final list. I usually do it with a matrix and assigning values based on subjective opinion and profile of the candidate.

Let me know your thoughts !

Cheers !
