Honestly wasn't prepared as I should have been..Been out of school for 7yrs and developed a bit of a rot study wise...While studying I focused mainly on Data Sufficiency questions....Initially was going to postpone the exam because of ill preparations but decided at the last minute to go ahead with it.....Took the exam yesterday...It started at 11am.. Had to guess on the last 3 Q questions because of little time...I found myself finishing the verbal with ample time left..It came as a shock when I saw my scores, mainly because I felt more confident about the Verbal section than the Quantitative..I intend to retake the exam latest by first week of September. Any suggestions on how I will be able to drastically improve my scores would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Manre

ps..I am new on here

hi manray, congrats on the 580~ you're already above national average.

Despite the fact that you finished early on the verbal section, it is your weakness right now. I'd focus on taking a couple of practice tests (GMATPrep, MGMAT, Princeton Review, Knewon, etc.) and see how you're doing in verbal. What type of questions are you getting wrong? Most people suggest Manhattan GMAT Sentence Correction for quick and easy SC fix. Reading Comp is probably the hardest to improve on as you'll find that you can't really develop good reading skills in just a month or two. Critical reasoning is practice and practice. Before you know it, you'll find a pattern of critical reasoning and be able to guess your answer. Manhattan GMAT also has some good books on the quant section, though I haven't used them before (read about them on this forum). Depending on what your target score/schools are, you can work out a schedule to better prepare you for this second time. Also, if you haven't, definitely get the Offcial Guide as it contains the most accurate questions to what you'd see on the GMAT. Best of luck!

Welcome to GMATClub!

Quick note -- try slowing down on verbal. I've found that this helps immensely for people who end early on verbal. It's most definitely helped my score!

Welcome to GMAT Club Man Ray.

Take a look at this post: gmat-study-plan-for-gmat-novices-start-your-gmat-journey-80727.html
It sounds like you need to spend 1-2 months with some decent books and you should be on your way to 700, if you need it of course...

i am very curious to know
do they consider this when they process the application?...

means "ok their national average is 550 so 650 from that country is quite good'
do they think in this way?
