Hi guys - haven't posted for ages but have used the site and it has been really useful.
Took the GMAT today and disappointed, scored 680 Q48 V35 - was hoping for Q49/50 V39/40. I was panicking throughout the Quant test that the questions seemed too easy and therefore that I was doing badly and the Verbal test was a nightmare as I suddenly had 2mins and 6 questions left which meant simply guessing and not reading. I am a native speaker and the most annoying thing is that my Verbal score on the GMAT prep before studying anything for it was 35!!
I spent basically the last 6 weeks studying fairly solidly, working through all the
MGMAT books, OG12 and both the verbal and quant review books (also bought a kaplan maths book). Having also bought the GMAT club online tests I managed to do only 6 tests in total and one
MGMAT prep. I had worked through the
MGMAT strategy books which are great for learning the topics - the Quant and RC, CR are fine and I am fairly strong, but the SC book is driving me crazy!! I went through it maybe twice and still could not tell anyone about it - I had no strategy for it except maybe choosing the one that sounded best.
My question is to everyone should I retake?? My chosen school is Bocconi in Milan for an MSc Finance which requires a GMAT of 650+ but full scholarship a GMAT of 700. I know if I could just actually learn SC and not have rushed those 6 questions I would have scored 720+ The admissions deadline for the 4th round is 10th April and 5th and final round 10th May, I also wanted to apply to LSE and HEC who I think will want better scores. My main problem is that I am in my final year of university and with a huge amount of work from now until the end of May I may not be able to dedicate much time to improving my score and actually come out with a worse score. If people think I should retake what can I do to really smash the SC which I feel like I need to learn first rather than study with the
MGMAT book.
Also any advice I would give to others would be to work hard on SC - do not do what I did! The other sections in Verbal are straightforward to learn as is the quant section but the SC just wouldn't go in!!!
Any advice would be great...
Thanks x
