Heroes of Timers is a continuation of the Game of Timers promotion (GOT) we ran last year with over 1,100 people joining and participating. This is the biggest GMAT competition on GMAT Club with an amazing opportunity to win over $20,000 worth of prizes! How do I Participate?
First, you need to register. Then on August 24, you will be able to start competing by attempting questions with the timer and posting explanations to never-before-seen questions. You and Your Team will receive points for a number of activities as well as opportunities for bonus points. See below the point earning table for details about activities and points. Team and Individual points earned will be reflected on this page below in your Dashboard.

Will Everyone Win Prizes?

• Everyone on the winning team will!
• The team that gets the most points at the end of the competition, will win. Every member on the winning team will receive access to the GMAT Club Tests for 2 weeks.
• The top 3 players on each of the 4 teams will have a choice of the top prizes (the winning team's 3 top users will have the first pick), and then the next 9 will choose their prizes based on the point ranking
• The remaining prizes will be distributed among the users based on the points earned. Each user is limited to 1 prize. We have a lot of prizes and expect over 500+ people getting something (Full disclosure: the majority of those, will be getting GMAT Club tests for the winning team). In other words, 9 people from non-winning teams will also win prizes based on the above.

No, the assignment is random. You will be given your team name when you Join the Competition. Also, your avatar will reflect your team's colors

How Does Heroes of Timers Competition Work?



Earning Points:
Here is a detailed explanation of how you can earn points and bonus opportunities that exist.
Every day Monday through Friday, GMAT Club Moderators will post 3-5 new questions (we will provide their listing in this topic) and we will identify them in the forum to make them easy to find.
Important: Questions will be posted multiple times per day!

When will the Competition Questions be Posted?

• We will start posting questions on Monday August 24th and will end on Friday Sept 4th.
• Questions will be posted Monday through Friday (no questions on Sat or Sun)
• Questions will be posted in the CR, SC, DS, and PS forums (no RC)
• Questions will be posted at 8 AM and 8 PM Pacific Standard US Time
• There will also be a daily BONUS Challenge question that will be posted randomly during the day/night. The link will be featured on GMAT Club's Instagram - Make sure you subscribe to our Instagram account to be notified when the BONUS Challenge question is posted! The same rules and rewards apply to the bonus question

How will I find the Competition Questions?
Competition questions will be posted in the second post of this discussion (currently being held) and they will also bear the competition badge/icon such as this example:




Can I see Other Replies? Can I edit mine?
You will not be able to see other user's replies to the competition questions. They will be hidden until the following day. 24 hours after posting, the OA will be revealed and other user's answers will become visible. Note that you will not be able to edit your posts/explanations once you submit, so make sure you proof-read your work. There are no exceptions to this rule.

3. Taking out brief notes from official explanation and assigning 5 core reasoning points to each of the answer choice
4. Expecting at least 3 out of those 5 core points/errors from each post including the reasoning for the correct answer choice
5. Checking if there anything misguiding
6. Lastly, stepping in the shoes of a beginner and going through the choices again to know whether it’s understandable.
All This, Times 60 posts per day per topic/question (on average) was challenging. Thus, those of you who challenged it, I need you to understand that in order to maintain consistency, we had to follow a similar protocol of reasoning till the end. I never looked on the left side of the posts to know who’s the one posting it unless it was proposed for a review. For me, Only explanations mattered. My judgments may have faltered at times, for that and for the PMs I haven’t responded to, I truly apologise. it was nothing personal. We were just doing our job and It was indeed tough one. Especially judging verbal which has a lot of grey Area. it just isn’t as straight forward as quant.

A note for cheaters

Where is the honour in this? Where is the sense of pride? These cheap tricks aren’t going to take you any further. Overreliance on people will weaken your mind-set and hamper your growth. There was so much desperation that we could see social media sources such as Facebook, https://gmatclub.com/chat, https://gmatclub.com/chat, and what not flooded with the competition questions, thus forcing us to create a stricter environment that’ll curb cheating and award the ones who truly deserve it.


A note for those who thought they wasted their time

How can one possibly lose time participating in a competition like this? It was a total win-win! Wasn’t GMAT prep your end goal? Did it not inculcate discipline in you? Did it not help you learn from your mistakes? There were only gains! So those of you who still feel they’ve wasted time. Let me know how exactly. I’m keen.

How do you guys approach GMAT? As a barricade or as a stepping stone?
B-schools do not want to eliminate people who do not reach a certain score on the GMAT.
B-schools want you to work hard and inculcate the abilities and habits needed to do well in their MBA programs. Doing this would ensure that you do well on the GMAT, during your MBA, and beyond.
You could continue to think of the GMAT as a hurdle that you need to somehow get done with. Or you could treat the test as an opportunity to develop the skills that you would anyway require during and after the MBA.
So, how do you treat the GMAT? As a barricade or a stepping stone? Would you like to continue treating it that way?

TAKEWAYS :

• The competition may sure have ended but your spirit should not. I’d request you all to keep going with the same pace, I’m sure typing out the explanation would have helped you learn a lot better. Keep it going. There are new questions posted every day.

• Discipline is the key. If this has helped you bring back the discipline in you, hold onto it, In the end game, it’s going to prove much valuable than you think

• Pop out of the so called GMAT world and start looking beyond
“In the GMAT world. “In the GMAT world, things work this way”, “In the GMAT world this is incorrect” etc. I have come across a lot of explanations mentioning “ Being is wrong in GMAT”, “ passive voice/construction is considered incorrect in GMAT” It’s time you get over it.
What and where is this GMAT world? Any of you visited this fantasy land? Why do B-schools really care so much about this world that they require applicants to take a test based in this different-from-real world?
Do things really work differently within the context of the GMAT? Or is that a way of teaching when something is not fundamentally clear?
Be responsible for your own learning. Don’t take anything for face value until it actually makes sense to you.

Strive for Excellence, and success will just be a by product.

Read the last couple of posts. I feel extremely sad that this platform is accused of unfairness .
GMAT Club for me is the only website that is free , has plethora of questions and gives you hundreds of thousands of question to prepare and practice.
Please respect the community that has given you so much.

Last year the similar competition was organised and despite having its own initial challenges, it was well appreciated and respected by all participants. We infact shared jokes about those challenges on the topic.

It is dis-heartening to see that how the moderators are put on spot and asked to explain every decision. Please understand the human limitation and professional commitments of moderators.

Request: Please let the forum be as fun loving and as exciting as it is and stop criticizing. If you have a feedback leave on the concerned topic and believe me your feedback would be read , evaluated and acted upon if needed. ( My personal experience)

Public forums are a great source to collaborate people working for a same goal but do not abuse them.

As writing providing detailed explanation takes too much time. In both 1 hour round ; able to explain 5 out of 8 Questions.

I hope; this trend will not continue on friday. Very difficult to give proper explanation within this time frame.

I’m really enjoy this competition, I do. I know you guys work very hard for this competition, posting a lot of questions to encourage us to learn GMAT, calculating our scores on time, solving many unexpected problems occurred between competition, and trying to answer all questions of us. Thanks

It's been two weeks that I've learned a lot. This competition encourages me to write more explanations and to learn more in order to solve many questions, both easy and hard. I think this competition was really successful!!
