Highest GMAT 640: Should I take it again? [#permalink]

This is my fourth attempt at the GMAT and my highest score has been 640 thus far. My other 3 attempts resulted in 490, 570 and 600. Unlike most people on this forum, my quant. score is my achilles heal. The most I have made on it is a 39 (57% percentile).

I would love to get into a top ten school but I realize that my GMAT score is definitely a weak spot. I majored in Information Systems and Technology at a well know historically black college and graduated with a 3.2 GPA. I am currently working on a Masters in Information Systems and Technology(estimated GPA upon graduation 3.8+) from a well known East Coast university.

I have 5 years of IT consulting experience with a major software vendor where I led several projects and gained multiple promotions. In the last year, I started my own independent practise and have been serving clients successfully since.

My questions are: should I retake the exam to try to get over the 700 mark or should I focus on other aspects of my application?

Thanks.

It depends on your feel about your math scores. Different people have different talents in different areas. For me I simply love math. But others may hate it. If you know the areas that you have problem with, and have a vision how you are going to change that, then you could try to tackle a higer score. 640 isn't a bad score depending on which school you are targeting. If you absolutely hate to work on any math problems any more, you may be better off using your time to work on the other aspect of your applications. One thing you definitely shouldn't do is to simply take another test just to see if you could get lucky.

Thanks for the feedback. Do you think the Ad committees would frown on so many GMAT attempts?

I do not know a lot about how the admission committees work. However from what I heard they would only look at the highest score. Hopefully other people will give you more insight into this.
