1. John’s weekly salary is twice as much as Fred’s weekly salary.

J=2F Not Sufficient as we do not have any information with respect to salary.

2. Fred’s weekly salary is 40 percent of the total of Chuck’s weekly salary and John’s weekly salary

F=0.4(C+J) Not sufficient as we do not have any information with respect to the salary

Combining both 1 and 2 we get

F=0.4(C+2F) ----- 0.2F = 0.4C

F=2C

We still do not have any number with respect to the salary.

F could be 8000 and C could be 4000 or it could be 4000 and 2000.

We have more than one possibilities.

Hence the answer is E.
