Just got my score back. 5.5/6

I spent a total of twenty minutes reading this guide and about ten minutes outlining out a sample essay a day before the GMAT. Chineseburned is spot on with this guide.

Please also help me to evaluate this AWA...i am just preparing and seek ur feedback on this...

Analysis of Argument

Prompt:
"In recent years, Braeburn Corporation has seen lagging sales of its food products. Just a few of the many food products Braeburn sells are soy products. Soy products have been shown to reduce rates of cancer. Because people care about reducing their risk of cancer, Braeburn should increase manufacturing of soy products. This will help Braeburn Corporation improve sales and increase profits."

ANALYSIS of ARGUMENT

The argument of the author concluding that increasing production of Soy products would help Brarburn Corporation improve sales and profit as Soy products have shown to reduce the cancer rates. It also assumes that such quality of Soy products are well established in the society and buyers are well informed about the product availability. While the author may have some merits in mentioned argument, there are flaws in three aspects.

To begin with, the assumption that because people care for reducing cancer threat, they would increase Soy product consumption, and that too one which is produced by Braeburn Corporation does not have required logical basis in the argument, however there could be already another corporation which is leading in this space in the market and Braeburn corporation may be known the most for some of their other product lines.

Furthermore, the argument failed establish the point that Braeburn Coropration is doing enough to create the market so that increased level of Soy product that they produce are consumed by the prospective customers. While for that Braeburn corporation must also engage a governmental agency or reputed external agency to establish the fact that their Soy product is the best available product in market which helps in lowering the threat of cancer.

Finally, it could be counter productive for Braeburn Corporation to increase manufacturing Soy product without a proper market study and building required distribution channels.

In conclusion, the authors argument is poorly supported and unconvincing. To strengthen further Braeburn Corporation need to ensure a detailed study of the root cause of sales lagging of their food product, it could also be the overall quality has been impacted for which consumers are departing the brand. Additionally a detailed market study may also be necessary before changing the manufacturing policy. Admittedly Soy products may be the option for furture focus to increase sales and profit, but not without proper background check and analysis.

When you guys say that you're using this following this template, does it mean that you're memorizing the introduction, and the bare bones of the essay and then filling them in to apply to the topic?

I'm writing tmrw and I left the AWA to the last minute

How much time do you need for the AWA? I am good with writing essays and I'm thinking of covering AWA in last 2 weeks along with my regular studies. Do you think its advisable?

chineseburned, thanks for this awesome post.

I've been putting off my AWA preparation because I wasn't quite sure where to start and I wanted to get a strong baseline in the V and Q before working on the essays, but now after just reading this thread I feel much better about the AWA.

This guide was fantastic. I took 1-2 days of casually looking at the template and reading up on the format of the AWA.

Thanks to Chineseburned's guide I got a 5.0 on the AWA.
