Imagine for a second being in my shoes, a techie who's also an amateur musician :lol: Which of these extracurricular stories would you emphasize on in order to impress the adcomms?

Artistic: For 7 years performed in various venues and non-profit events, collaborated with other like-minded amateur artists from other parts of the world, created a website for my group to promote our music, won several contests with cash prizes, carried out grassroots promotion for the group's internet album, received radio airplay, established relationships with radio DJs, playing dual roles as both musician as well as artist manager.. etc...

OR

Organizational: For 2 years co-founded and ran a musical event/talent company to promote music and multiculturalism, planned regular concerts, established relationships with musicians/advertisers, carried out both mainstream and grassroots promotion, devised business plan/advertising packages, met and negotiated deals with venue owners/advertisers, oversaw operation of concert, etc...

Neo I suppose I could :lol: But the problem is, I believe schools look for depth not breadth, so I'd probably have to choose just *one* to describe in detail in my essays :roll: And probably summarize the other in the generic "extracurricular" textbox....

Hrm... like mNeo, I see this as ONE topic you can combine into and talk in depth about your passion for performing AS WELL AS helping others by organizing your business.

Hmm thanks for the advice guys... Ideally I would've liked to put an emphasis on one or the other, to really give a deep impression of what it was like in my shoes and the type of impact I had on my music group or organization or musicians that I was able to work with or funds that I was able to raise... but you guys may be right, all the details would bore the adcomms to tears anyways :lol:

well, the key is to have enough details that it shows your unique self, but not too much that it puts the adcom to sleep... it's a tricky path to take, and we're all navigating it at the same time ;)

I vote for No.1. It shows your other side.

No.2 doesnt bring out your artistic side. It shows you work with artists, but in a managerial tone.
