I've read that for SC questions, any choices containing the word "being" used to be automatically incorrect. But recently, the GMAT has figured out a way so that "being" can also be correct. Can anyone care to address this? When can we use this and when can we not?
Thanks.

'Being' can be used in two ways:

In the active voice you can say -- 'I am being lazy' -- This shows a state of temporariness i.e I am not always lazy but am acting lazy right now.

In the passive voice your can say -- 'Your work is being done' -- This shows that the work is happening as we speak.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Being is not ALWAYS incorrect. I think whats generally believed is that GMAT often uses the Being trap. To my knowledge "Being" should be eliminated, if it doesn't add any meaning to the sentence - courtesy, Manhattan SC book. For eg, "Being frustrated with her husband, Mary broke the vase". In this Being doesnt add any value - ie, "Frustrated with her husband, Mary broke the vase" sounds better.
