I warned my sister not to open the soda can because Uncle Fred had shaken it up when he grabbed it from the refrigerator. (A) had shaken it up when he grabbed it (B) had shook it up when he grabbed it (C) had shooken it up when he grabbed it (D) had shaken it up; he grabbed it (E) had shook it up, grabbing it
Also tell me if this sentence is correct if it had been one of the options?
I warned my sister not to open the soda can because Uncle Fred had shaken it up, grabbing it, from the refrigerator.
Think A. B) Had+past participle of shake is required. Shook is past simple of shake C) Shooken?? I am pretty sure it isn't a valid word. One thing is GMAT will never never never give an option that has an incorrect word like this. D) Unnecessary usage of ";" E) Usage of "," incorrect.
The commas create some kind of parallelism which isn't required here. The sentence merits a past perfect tense which creates a timeline..... had shaken it after he grabbed it.
