Both ABC and ADE are right triangle ..
so HYP AD of triangle ADE = \(\sqrt{12^2+9^2} = 15\)..
and BC is \(\sqrt{3^2+4^2} = 5\)..

hence AB + CD = 15-5=10

According to the Pythagoras theorem, we get sides of a triangle as 9:12:15. Then this can be reduced to 3:4:5. Hence, 15-5=10, making E as the correct answer.
