you can simplify by taking 20 xy common from the LHS which gives you 20xy( r+ s) = 100
dividing 20 on both sides xy ( r+s) = 5
r+s + 5 is given in the question stem and replacing it gives you xy(1)=5
which gives xy = 1

Solution

Given
In this question, we are given that
• 20rxy + 20sxy = 100 and r + s = 5

To find
We need to determine
• The value of xy

Approach and Working out
From the equation 20rxy + 20sxy = 100, we can simplify and write
• 20rxy + 20sxy = 100
Or, 20xy (r + s) = 100
Or, 20xy * 5 = 100
Or, 100xy = 100
Or, xy = 100/100 = 1

Thus, option B is the correct answer.

Correct Answer: Option B

Asked: If 20rxy + 20sxy = 100 and r + s = 5, what is the value of xy?

20rxy + 20sxy = 100
r + s = 5

20xy(r+s) = 100
20xy*5 = 100
xy = 1

IMO B

20xy(r+s)=100
r+s= 5 (given)
20*5*xy= 100
100xy= 100
=>xy=1
