Solution



Given:
    • 70% of the female students and 90% of the male students in the senior class at a certain school are going on the senior trip
    • The senior class is 60 percent female

To find:
    • The percent of the senior class going on the senior trip

Approach and Working:
As all the information provided are in terms of percentages only, we can start solving the question by assuming the total number of students in the senior class as 100.
    • Number of female students in senior class = 60% of 100 = 60
    • Number of male students in senior class = 100 – 60 = 40

Also,
    • Number of female students going for senior trip = 70% of 60 = 42
    • And, number of male students going for senior trip = 90% of 40 = 36

Total number of students going for the senior trip = (42 + 36) = 78
As the total number of students is 100, percentage of students going for the trip = 78%

Hence, the correct answer is option C.

Answer: C

let the total students be 100.

Female = 60

male = 40

female going to the trip = 60*70% = 42

Male going to the trip = 40 * 90% = 36

Total ( male + female ) going to the trip = 42 + 36 = 78

Required % : percent of the senior class is going on the senior trip:

Senior class = 100

students of the senior class going to trip = 78

(78/100) *100 = 78% .

C is the correct answer.

solution:
Assuming total students to be 100,then females=60 and males=40

70% for 60=42 and 90% of 40=36

42+36=78


78/100=78% thus option C is correct.
