IMO the answer has to be B.

How is it C? can someone explain?

How is it C?

Considering maximum values of the ranges.. 8 and 3
8*3 = 24

how could the product be 25.

12 <(-xy) <24

Possible square could be 16, so the answer would be 4. (Option B)

The IMO should be B. Could someone please explain how it is C?

Ans IMHO is B. X can assume values from -7.99 to -6.01 approx. Y can assume 2.01 to 2.99 approx. So, for simplicity lets take the ranges.. let X=-6,Y=2, so -XY=12. SQRT Greater than 3. Let X=-8,Y=3, so -XY=24. Sqrt less than 5. So, clearly 4 can be the only solution.

-8*3 = -24*-1=24

How is the answer 25? Any one explan?

Multiplying -8 < x < -6 by -1 yields 6 < -x < 8. Since 2 < y < 3, it follows (by multiplication) that 12 < (-x)y < 24. Taking square roots (since all numbers are positive) yields √12 < √(-xy) < √24.

Since 3 < √12 and 5 > √24, 4 is one possible value of √(-xy).

First, we need to to find out the probable value of xy of which value we will put in the final equation.
for each inequality 4 values are possible.
1. -8*3=-24
2.-6*2=-12
3.-8*2=-16
4.-6*3=-18
