The original information only helps if we know the average for the 7/15 of the trip
Combining A and B certainly gives the answer

From statement 2 we cannot say that the average is for the entire trip.

Waiting for OA

If we know the distance travelled(600 miles) given in first statement,
& the average gallon consumption per mile - 25miles/galon (given in statement 2),
we can calculate the gasoline consumption which is 600/25 = 24.

Bunuel Please help me understand the part "35 miles to the gallon on the last fifth of the trip" .

A truck averages 20 miles per gallon of gasoline on the first third of the trip,

If an entire trip is say 60 miles, then the first third would be the first 20 miles. 20 miles per gallon means that the truck can cover 20 miles on 1 gallon of gasoline, so to cover the the first third (20 miles) it will need 1 gallon of gasoline.
