If a = x – b and b = a – y, what is the value of ab ?

A. $$\frac{(x^2 + y^2)}{4}$$
B. $$\frac{xy}{4}$$
C. $$\frac{(x-y)}{4}$$
D. $$\frac{(x^2 - y^2)}{4}$$
E. $$\frac{(y^2 - x^2)}{4}$$
