For (D) but the result of the two stems are not the same.

(axb)(ayb) ax=by=2 so (2b)(2a)=4ab. ab=1 so 4*1=4.

2xy=4-> xy=2 (axb)(ayb)-> a^2xyb^2 or a^2b^2xy. 2*a^2*b^2=2

stmnt 1 and 2 are suff.

(1) ax=by=2
---------------
(axb)(ayb) = (2b)(2a) = 4ab = 4

statement 1 is sufficient

(2) 2xy=4 --> xy = 2

(axb)(ayb) = a^2 b^2 xy = a^2 . b^2
