If h is the hundredths digit in the decimal number d = 1.3h4, what is the value of d?

(1) h < 5
(2) d < 1.321

i) h<5 => h can be 0,1,2,3,4 => Not Sufficient

ii) d<1.321 => h can be 0, 1 i.e. d can be 1.304 or 1.314 => Not Sufficient

Combining h can be either 0 or 1 => Not Sufficient

d = 1.3h4, what is the value of d?

Let's start with (1)+(2)
--> h < 5 and d < 1.321
d can be 1.304 or 1.314. We don't determine the exact d.
NOT SUFFICIENT

Since (1)+(2) is not sufficient, options (A),(B),(C),(D) can be eliminated.

FINAL ANSWER IS (E)

D=1.3h4
A. H<5
D can be any digit between 0-4

B.D<1•321
1.3h4 < 1.321

So there can be two possible values of h either 0 or 1
So none of a or b can solve it

If h is the hundredths digit in the decimal number d = 1.3h4, what is the value of d?

(1) h < 5
--> Possible values of d = {1.304, 1.314, 1.324, 1.334, 1.344} --> Insufficient

(2) d < 1.321
--> Possible values of d = {1.304, 1.314} --> Insufficient

Combining (1) & (2),
--> Possible values of d = {1.304, 1.314} --> Insufficient

question does not say round off value
#1
h < 5
d= 1.3(4/3/2/1/0)4
insufficient
#2
d < 1.321
d can be 1.3(1/0)1
insufficient
from 1 &2
d can be 1.3(1/0)1
insufficient
IMO E

Well, looking at the conditions, d can be either 1.314 or 1.304. Straight (E) :)

I daresay, these questions are designed to trip you rather than test you.

If h is the hundredths digit in the decimal number d = 1.3h4, what is the value of d?

(1) h < 5
(2) d < 1.321

From the question stem, d = 1.3h4 ( h can range from 0 to 9, included)
From Statement 1, h<5 (we have 5 possibilities, h = 0,1,2,3,4)
From Statement 2, d<1.321 (infinite many possibilities for d)

Combining statement 1+2, we still have 2 possible answers (d = 1.314, 1.304)

Hence, E

It's given that h is the hundredths digit in the decimal number d = 1.3h4.
We need to find value of d.

Statement-1 states that h < 5
Or, h can be 0,1,2,3,4 or 5. Not any distinct value for h.
Hence Insufficient.
Cancel AD. Keep BCE

Statement-2 states that d < 1.321
As d = 1.3h4 and d < 1.321, d can be either 1.304 or 1.314.
We are not getting distinct value for D.
Insufficient.
Cancel B. Keep C E.

Taking statement 1 and 2 together d can be either 1.304 or 1.314.
Or, we are not getting distinct value for d.
Hence, Insufficient.
Cancel C.

Right Answer Is Option E.
