I hardly believe C is correct because C has "it".
However, C keeps the meaning intact.
I can tell B and E are out.

Sorry, can't get what's exactly wrong with past perfect here. Shouldn't 'had .. ignored' mean that something had been ignored during uncertain period of time right until the moment in the past - 'until recently'?



I have this question too. Can someone explain again? How is 'had' incorrect in that sentence?
