116/100 of X = 406
X = 40600 / 116
X = 350

Again,
110/100 of 350 = 110/ 100 *350 = 385

Hence, C.

(A) $374 (B)$382
(C) $385 (D)$392
(E) $399 This one can be translated as follows: 116% represents 406 1% represents 406/116% 110% represents (406/116%)*110% = 385 So the best answer is C. Sharon's original Salary is $$\frac{406}{116}*100 = 350$$

If Sharon's salary is increased by 10% it will be Sharon's original Salary is $$\frac{350*110}{100} = 385$$, Answer must be (C)

Hi guys,

I was wondering how you do the mental math here. I couldn't quickly see that 116*3,5=406. Is there some kind of shortcut?

Thanks!

It will come with practice dear...

116*3.5

= $$116*\frac{7}{2}$$

= $$58*7$$

= $$50*7 + 8*7$$

= $$350 + 56$$

= $$400 + 6$$

= $$406$$, Hope this helps...

We can create the equation:

1.16n = 406

n = 350

Therefore, if her salary were increased by 10%, she would earn 1.1 x 350 = 385 dollars.
