If that insect is a bee, it can only sting once. It only did sting once. So it is a bee.

Which one of the following exhibits a pattern of reasoning most similar to that in the argument above?
(A) Spring is here. It has to be, because when it is spring, I cannot stop sneezing; and I just sneezed.
(B) When the sky is clear, the atmospheric pressure is high. At the moment, it is clearing up, so the atmospheric pressure is bound to be high soon.
(C) Old and brittle paintings are always moved with extreme care. That particular painting is never moved with extreme care. So it must not be old and brittle.
(D) Only one more thunderstorm was needed to ruin that roof. But the roof was still fine a month later. There must not have been any thunderstorm over that month.
(E) To survive in the wild requires physical stamina like Mark’s. All the same, Mark’s fear of spiders would prevent his survival.

SPOILER:

I arrive at A eventually, but I'm still wondering why it is "sneezed", sneezed mean he doesn't sneez anymore right? whereas it should be "can't stop sneezing". I thought it would be more proper to be "sneezing"

A only mentions that he sneezed once. It doesn't say he couldn't stop sneezing. So I disagree with the OA.

The answer can not be D. The pattern of the stem is If A, then B.B occurs so A.

Only option A fulfills the requirement correctly.

Agree with that logic

"A => B, so B=> A" is the structure used

[b]The pattern of the stem is If A, then B.B occurs so A.[\b]

Great logic. It cancels out D but option B seems to satisfy the same.

A

B is wrong => the answer choice is not saying the atmospheric pressure is high now.

Quote:
so the atmospheric pressure is bound to be high soon.

I still think that sneezing would preserve the logic better.

(E) To survive in the wild requires physical stamina like Mark’s. All the same, Mark’s fear of spiders would prevent his survival.

Lets understand this by comparing the structures.

argument:
if Bee --> sting only once
sting once -----> hence Bee
structure: if A---> then B
since B---> hence A

options:

a) if spring ---> I cannot stop sneezing
i sneezed ---> hence spring
structure: if A---> then B
since B---> hence A

b) if sky clear ---> pressure high
sky clearing ---> hence pressure will be high
structure: if A---> then B
if A---> then B

c) if old and brittle ----> moved with care
never moved with extreme care ---> hence not old and brittle
structure: if A---> then B
since not B---> hence not A

d) if one more th-st ---> roof ruin
roof not ruined ---> hence no th-st
structure: if A---> then B
since not B---> hence not A

e) if survive in wild ---> stamina like Mark's
Mark's fear prevents his survival
absolutely different structure

-> Only A has the same structure as the argument, hence it should be the answer.
