18. If the artificial is not better than the natural, to what end are all the arts of life? To dig, to plow, to build, to wear clothes—all are direct violations of the injunction to follow nature.

If the author’s argument were challenged on the grounds that the construction of buildings has adverse effects on the natural environment, which of the following replies might the author use to respond to the challenge logically?

(A) There are human activities, such as making music, that are environmentally harmless.
(B) Harming the environment is not an end, of purpose, of the arts of life. (C) The construction could involve the use of natural, not artificial, materials.
(D) Constructing buildings is not an “art of life.â€

If artificial is not better, then what would you call something which is artificial and popular (rather having utility).

E.

If building house is artificial i.e not good since it has an effect on natural balance, which is not good. But this house is like other arts which makes out lives better.

between E and b

guess e sounds better as it relates to use of humans and upgradation of life whereas B merely neutralises the negativ score...

E it is.

argument depends on a premise that construction has bad effect on natural envn. In "E" author accepts that there is an adverse effect on nature, but it is for the good of people. Thus, it is acceptable.

Good to know that I choose the right one. E it is. Buildings will be 'arts of life' for the author and is ok according to him.
