It is known that price fluctuations of Stock X in no way affect the price fluctuations of Stock Y.

p( stock X will increase) = 0.4 = p(x)
p( stock Y will increase) = 0.6 = p(y)

p(exactly one will increase) = p(x)*1-p(y) + p(y)*1-p(x) = .4*.4 + .6*.6 = .16+.36 = 0.52
