If the ratio of boys to girls attending school S in 1980 was 1:2, what was the ratio of boys to girls attending school S in 1981?

(1) 50 more boys were attending school S in 1981 than in 1980.
(2) 50 more girls were attending school S in 1981 than in 1980.

My solution is:

Let the number of girls studying at school S in 1980 be x and the number of boys be y. The ratio for year 1980 will be x\y= 1:2.
Statement 1 alone says that for 1981 x grows by 50 . Statement 2 alone says that y increases by 50. These statements alone are not sufficient to answer the question. Together, we know that in year 1981 those numbers will be x+50 and y+50, correspondingly. Hence, the ratio will become x+50\ y+50. However we cannot arrive at an exact number. Hence, the answer is E.
