If the x-coordinates of the two x-intercepts of a parabola are 3 – √2 and 5 + √2, then what is the distance between them?

A. 2–2√2
B. 2+2√2
C. 8+2√2
D. 2
E. 8

Given two points of intersection of the parabola with the x-axis. It means the straight-line joining this two points is the x-axis. On the x-axis , y-coordinate is 0.

Now the problem is simplified to "What is the "distance between (3 – √2,0) and (5 + √2,0).

Hence, the required distance= (5 + √2)-(3 – √2)=2+2√2

Ans. (B)
