(1) is sufficient w/x=y/z
(2) is insufficient, w/x = z/y

Is w/x = y/z ?

(1) w/y = x/z
w/x = y/z
Sufficient

(2) wy = xz
w/x = z/y
Insufficient

Hence, A.

I have a question: If statement 2 states that w/x = z/y, so is not it answering to the given question as "no" and hence is sufficient too in itself (no is also an answer, right)? Even though, both the statement are giving contradicting solutions. What am I missing?

Hi urvashis09,

Question stem:- Is \(\frac{w}{x}=\frac{y}{z}\)? (Y/N)

St2:- wy=xz

"NO" case is known to you. (\(\frac{w}{x}=\frac{z}{y}\neq{\frac{y}{z}}\))

"Yes" Case:-
1. All the four variables are equal. i.e., w=x=y=z=Any number (say 1)
So, wx=yz=1.
Therefore,\(\frac{w}{x}=\frac{y}{z}=1\)
So, st2 is insufficient due to inconsistency.
