Perfect. Took cases for resolving mod sign and finally took the union of the two answer sets. Yes, this is flawless. :-)

ok...so i did the testing of ranges and this is what i got:

A. x < 0

Test x= -1: |-1+1| > 2(-1) -1 --> |0|>-2 -1 --> 0>-3 ...so this is possible solution

B. x < 2
Test x= 1: |1+1| > 2(1) -1 --> |2|>2 -1 --> 2>1 ...so this is possible solution

C. -2 < x < 0

Test x= -1: we have already testes this for A ...so this is possible solution

D. -1 < x < 2

Test x= 0: |0+1| > 2(0) -1 --> |1|>-1 --> 1>-1 ... since abs value cant be negative, this is not a solution

E. 0 < x < 2

Test x= 1: |1+1| > 2(1) -1 --> |2|>2 -1 --> 2>1 ...so this is possible solution

so plugging the values seem to eliminate only one answer

the algebra gives me:

X<0 or x<2

how do we pick the correct answer?

Hi Mansoor50,

You proved that both +1 and -1 are possible values of X. At this point, you can stop working. Which of the 5 answer choices includes BOTH of those values in its range? (hint: there's only one that does - and that's the correct answer).
