If x = -1, then (x^4 - x^3 + x^2)/(x - 1) =

(A) -3/2
(B) -1/2
(C) 0
(D) 1/2
(E) 3/2

$$\frac{x^4 - x^3 + x^2)}{x - 1} =\frac{(-1)^4 - (-1)^3 + (-1)^2)}{-1 - 1} =\frac{1+1+1}{-2}=-\frac{3}{2}$$.

If x = -1, then (x^4 - x^3 + x^2)/(x - 1) =

(A) -3/2
(B) -1/2
(C) 0
(D) 1/2
(E) 3/2

$$=\frac{(-1)^{4}-(-1)^{3}+(-1)^{2}}{(-1-1)}=\frac{1+1+1}{-2}=-\frac{3}{2}$$
