-[(-1)^4 + (-1)^3 +(-1)^2 +(-1)^1] = (1-1+1-1) = 0

Ans should be '0' but it's not in the options.

Any -ve raised to even power will be +ve
Any -ve raised to odd power will remain -ve.

And '1' raised to any power=1 only.
Therefore, the question becomes -(1-1+1-1)=0

I think there seems to be a typo error in the answer choices: 0 should be present in option C instead of a.

I am getting 0 as the answer.

SOLUTION

If x = -1, then -(x^4 + x^3 + x^2 + x) =

(A) -10
(B) - 4
(C) 0
(D) 4
(E) 10

Substitute x = -1:

$$-(x^4 + x^3 + x^2 + x) =-(1-1+1-1)=0$$.

SOLUTION

If x = -1, then -(x^4 + x^3 + x^2 + x) =

(A) -10
(B) - 4
(C) 0
(D) 4
(E) 10

Substitute x = -1:

$$-(x^4 + x^3 + x^2 + x) =-(1-1+1-1)=0$$.

Asked: -(x^4 + x^3 + x^2 + x) = ?

-(x^4 + x^3 + x^2 + x) = - (1-1+1-1) = 0
